Many of the major advancements in smart phone technology over the past twenty years were made possible by innovations at Qualcomm. Despite the company’s considerable contributions to the industry, competitors like Apple and Google supported legislative measures to weaken patent laws —ultimately making it harder for Qualcomm to generate revenue from the licensing of its patented inventions. Simply put, if these measures passed, they could bankrupt the company. Instead of trying to debate patent law intricacies in a public forum, we rallied support for Qualcomm’s cause by demonstrating how an attack on patent rights would undermine the innovative spirt that has made this country great. Hence, INO-V8 was born.
